Title: Producers Rep flying in from LA, Page Ostrow from Ostrow and Company
Text:

More information on Page Ostrow from Ostrow and Company:

Ostrow and Company was founded by veteran entertainment industry executive Page B. Ostrow who has arranged financing and or negotiated distribution for over 150 feature films and numerous documentaries working initially on behalf of numerous international distributors until 2000 when inspired by a vision to protect the interests of independent filmmakers, Page Ostrow shifted the company focus to representing films and projects on behalf of filmmakers and producers requiring distribution and financing. Ostrow's background includes working under contract for Initial Entertainments Graham King distributor/producer of Oscar winning films such as "The Departed", "The Aviator" and "Blood Diamond". These days, in order to find, negotiate track and collect on deals for independent filmmakers and producers Ostrow relies on her extensive relationships and the previous distribution expertise developed during the ten years she spent providing distributors with global sales support, licensing and pre-sales for their film projects and libraries to international buyers at all the film markets. As a result Page Ostrow maintains her contacts with key executives who have a shared vision toward launching quality films into the marketplace.

The Marketplace

In 2000, Ostrow recognized that there was something lacking in the marketplace in terms of negotiating, marketing and collecting on behalf of independent feature filmmakers, producers and writers, so she filled the gap by jumping fences to become one of Los Angeles's leading producer's representatives. Ostrow and Company has a reputation for taking risks on projects, creating "buzz", igniting bidding wars and putting filmmakers on the map.

Producers Representative, Page Ostrow is supported by associates with a shared vision to deliver films to the marketplace that are thought provoking, compelling and entertaining. Films that inspire audiences to take action in life because of what they experience on the screen. Films that are compelling and entertaining. In addition to functioning as the producers representative Page Ostrow holds producing credits on films such as "Stolen Childhoods" with Meryl Streep theatrically released in 2005. "Juvies" documentary about kids behind bars in adult prisons (one of the kids sentences was reduced by 25 years as a result of the making of this film) narrated and executive produced by Mark Wahlberg for which Ostrow negotiated the world premiere on HBO, produced by Leslie Neal and John Densmore (The Doors), "O Tapes" on Showtime, "Inside Iraq" and "Make it Funky" to be released theatrically by Sony Pictures. Additionally, Ostrow negotiated advances with distributors for feature films such as "Dating Games People Play", "Surfer King", 'Green River', Second Coming, Mattie Fresno, "The Bros" with Lions Gate and American Drug Wars premiere on Showtime.

Background

Originally Canadian, Ostrow began her career as an assistant director on many films for Orion, Alliance, Viacom, Simcom and H.B.O. In 1990, she joined forces with the right hand to Canada?s largest distribution/production company Alliance Entertainment to develop film projects in Los Angeles and began attending film and television markets and festivals including Cannes, Mifed, AFM, Sundance, Toronto Film Festival, Natpe, VSDA, Mipcom and Mip TV. After forming a Los Angeles based company in the Orion Pictures building, Ostrow eventually became an independent sales executive for over 25 International Distributors and represented buyers internationally until 2000. During her tenure Page Ostrow gained loyal relationships with hundreds of distribution and production company presidents. Ostrow currently deals with all the appropriate companies in addition to private equity groups on behalf of her filmmaking clients to get projects in development financed and or completed films placed with top international and domestic distributors, mini-majors and studios. At film markets and festivals, Ostrow earned a reputation as an excellent negotiator with film buyers and distributors via a combination of loyal contacts globally, overall business savvy and language skills, (English, French, Spanish, German and Yiddish).

Giving

Page Ostrow participates in many charitable and non-profit organizations relating to the arts and healing, such as Free Arts For Abused Children. She served on the International Committee of Women in Film from 2003 through 2005. As a major supporter of Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, and after intensive training in Germany, Ostrow is part of the largest oral history project of its kind, responsible for recording the testimonials of thousands of holocaust survivors in over sixty countries worldwide. She is of service to the addiction recovery community on a regular basis for over 15 years. As a means to contributing to the filmmaking community Ostrow has been staging and moderating the popular pitching event and contest known as "Green Light Night" in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto. With an eye toward being candid and direct studio executives are invited by Page Ostrow to participate on a panel that gives feedback to the creative community. (See Los Angeles Times cover story). She is a member in good standing with the Directors Guild of Canada, Screen Actors Guild of America and The International Film Society. She served on the board of directors for The National Council for Jewish Women in 2004 and participated as an activist for the National Organization of Jewish Women. In 2006 Ostrow was awarded the Wave of Excellence Award from the Garden State film festival for her contribution to the cinematic arts in addition to being the first Hollywood entertainment executive to be invited to speak at the United Nations Film Festival in New York City.

Inspirations: People who triumph against all odds. The fishing village I've been going to for 20 years in Zihuatanejo Mexico and my pup "Happy".

Sports: Ranked in Canada for tennis in the under 16 category Page Ostrow enjoys playing tennis recreationally at The Riviera Country Club and The Beverly Hills Tennis Club on Maple Drive in Beverly Hills. An early riser, I hike the local mountains. I also love water and sail boat races at the California Yacht Club.

How to get through life: Have a good sense of humor.

Title: Strong BC Presence at 2010 Festival
Text:

The organizers this year open the festival with the world premier of Beast of the Bottomless Lake, a feature length comedy starring Stargate's David Nykl, which was shot in Kelowna and the surrounding areas. With this, and the comedy western Gunless starring Paul Gross, which was partly shot in Osoyoos, BC, closing the festival, the Okanagan has a strong presence this year. Kelowna based filmmakers Marc Arellano and Heath Tait are both up for awards in the Canadian documentary category, for very different productions. Marc Arellano's Strange Fruit deals with the issues faced by many Okanagan farmers today, whereas Heath's Vancouver Vagabond is a personal insight into the making of his short film Pictorial Forest, which is also being screened at the festival. Both films have been well received, with Heith's Vancouver Vagabond already picking up awards on the International Film Festival circuit.
